Went to this awesome sushi making class last night - learned a crapload about how to choose and prepare the fish (and also how *not* to prepare the fish, more importantly).. also learned how to mix the rice properly, roll it so it’s pretty, eat it in the correct order.. Yummmmm. The *best* part is when we got to gobble everything up at the end! There was this girl sitting next to me that was really fun and cool, until someone else mentioned they were from LA. Then she kind of lost her mind, and I wished I were sitting somewhere else, away from the secretly crazy people.

I stepped out to use the restroom some time during the evening, and when I returned to the room, the chef was starting his demonstration. While I made my way back to my seat, the chef had his head bent over the demonstration table, orating loudly as he made a maki roll: “…so you want to spread it with one hand… hold it in place!! ….and then you take your right hand….. now you push it like this, you see…..”
I swear my head was going to explode. I did accidentally let out a half guffaw-half snarf over the head of a dude who turned to snarl at me. The chef continued: “Well we don’t want it to be fat on one end and small on the other right? Who would want to eat that???”
The rest of the group laughed politely, but me.. I let the tears flow.
