*breathless*
WE JUST CHASED IAN ZIERING DOWN KALAKAUA AVENUE!!! which is the main strip here in Waikiki. He stepped on Mario’s shoe, said “I’m sorry”, and then took off with a hottie brunette on his arm. I chased him as closely as a polite person can chase someone, and took a picture of his back - it’s a really good picture, very good paparazzi quality ![]()

I won’t bore you with descriptions about how beautiful the beaches here are - I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves when I get home. You’d hate me either way so let’s table that hatred for a later date, shall we? For now, I regale you with tales from the Polynesian isles!
At Waimea Beach on the North Shore of Oahu - a gorgeous blue crescent of a beach dotted with rock formations where the sand is fluffy like pillows (ok I had to get a little bit in now!), there was a cliff where people would climb up to the top and then jump off into the water. One very fat woman in a gigantic navy blue swimsuit got to the top somehow and then was afraid to jump, so the entire beach shouted encouragement until she took the dive, dragging the hapless young man standing next to her with her by accident. We then cheered and high-fived each other. It was quite a patriotic moment. She was really really fat.
A young girl at Kailua Beach on the east shore of Oahu - fantastically clear blue waters and an ideally windy location for water sports - sported a tie-dye pink and white swimsuit with an unfortunate brown streak across the butt region. She captured my attention for well over an hour. I couldn’t figure out whether it was part of the pattern of the fabric, or if she had …. I took a photo, so you can judge when I post them. I still don’t know.
For once in my life, I am the majority, huzzah!! Everyone here is a variation on Asian, with the occasional surfer dude white guy. Even the majority of the tourists visiting here are Asian. We did see one black person today, in Chinatown of all places, and the first words Mario blurted were: Grand Master P! Yes, it’s that rare.
Ok, enough stories now. Must go eat now. I find I tend to eat better here, as the fresh fish and fresh fruit are too good to pass up. The pineapples are as sweet as you’ve heard, and there is a style of pork here called kalua (pig roasted in an underground oven, luau-style) that Mario aims to eat at every single meal possible. I think I’ll have a Hawaiian party when I get home, to share all of the wonderful things we’ve eaten out here with you guys ![]()
